At Apple Blossom Village, we value healthy eating!

During our school year program, we offer a healthy and hearty morning snack each day with tea time offered weekly. Using a grain of the day rotation or local grains, we offer a grain, nut and fruit combination most days. We try to eat seasonal and local foods. Examples from our menu include Monday Rice Day (wild Rice, pecans, and blueberries) and Tuesday Oats Day (oatmeal, walnuts, and apples). In the Harvest and Reawakening Sessions, we make homemade soup for snack on Wednesdays with fresh veggies brought in by families. In addition to Wednesday Soup Day, cooking is integrated into our curriculum each session, and we do a food preservation project in the fall. During these times, children will participate in recipe reading, measuring and trying new foods.

We eat family-style with the children at snack time.  Each day, children will take turns assisting with table setting and clean-up. During the meal, we model and practice a silent start and then quiet conversation, mindful eating and kind table talk.

During the summer we offer a morning snack including a protein rich item and a fruit or vegetable. Often our snacks tie into the daily camp activities.

Families are encouraged to provide a litterless lunch for their child each day. Why? Because it produces less waste, it's healthier and... it's cheaper! For more information on litterless lunch, check out this link to the Waste-Free Lunch.

Food allergies

Please inform us of allergies. We are able to accommodate some allergies, dairy free or vegetarian diets but parents will be expected to supply the food for children requiring highly specialized diets.
